In 2001, the Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative (SCPI) challenged communities to come together to maximize existing resources to address homelessness. Given their role as community planner and resource to the community, United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex County took the lead and submitted a planning proposal to facilitate a broad-based community consultation process to address this issue.

After several community forums, the community agreed to a coalition approach as the best way to implement the community plan. The Taking Action on Homelessness Together Coalition was formed and continues today under its new name - Homeless Coalition of Windsor-Essex County. United Way continues to act as a resource to the Coalition and as fiscal agent and administrator for some of the grant projects for the Homeless Coalition. http://www.weareunited.com
